Abstract

Abstract

Technological developments also have impacts on changing society habits. It can be seen from the interest in reading printed media such as books, newspapers, or magazines. Various studies have also shown that the emergence of digital media (internet) has decreased the interest in reading printed media, and this has occurred in many countries from various parts of the world, including Indonesia. In addition, the emergence of digital media also has changed the way people’s reading, from intensive reading to extensive reading. Those make the print media business or industry almost died. Like it or not, if they want to survive the printed media business must adjust to online media.

Abstrak

Perkembangan teknologi juga berdampak pada perubahan kebiasaan masyarakat. Salah satu yang paling mudah untuk dilihat ialah minat membaca media cetak seperti buku, surat kabar, maupun majalah. Berbagai penelitian juga menunjukkan, kemunculan media digital (internet) berdampak pada menurunnya minat membaca media cetak, dan hal ini terjadi di banyak negara dari berbagai belahan dunia, termasuk Indonesia. Selain itu, kemunculan media digital juga berdampak pada perubahan cara membaca masyarakat, yang sebelumnya membaca intensif kini menjadi membaca ekstensif. Inilah yang membuat bisnis atau industri media cetak seakan berada “di ujung tandukâ€. Mau tidak mau, suka tidak suka, jika ingin bertahan bisnis media cetak harus beradaptasi ke media online.

Kata kunci: teknologi, media cetak, media digital, masyarakat, kebiasaaan membaca, industri media.
