This research is motivated by the lack of teacher innovation in strategic approaches to students during the learning process which causes students to be less enthusiastic about participating in learning. The purpose of this study was to improve the Higher Order Thinking Ability (HOTS) of high school students in East OKU District through a scaffolding approach to learning the human digestive system. The research method used is a quasi-experimental research by giving a pre-test to the experimental class. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data were collected by direct observation, the test was tested through post-test and pretest, closed questionnaire to the teacher directly, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out by using questionnaire analysis, observation analysis, test analysis, and Higher Order Thinking Ability (HOTS) analysis. The results showed that the experimental class had a significant increase in Higher Order Thinking ability (HOTS) and the scaffolding approach in learning biology of the human digestive system material could improve the higher order thinking skills of XI SMA students in East OKU District.
