The purpose of this study is to determine the characteristics and mineral content and cellulose identification of petrisian wood fossils and araucarioxylon in Geopark Merangin Jambi. This research was conducted in Merangin Geopark Area in Merangin District of Jambi Province. This research was conducted in 2015. From the research result, it can be concluded from geochemical perspective and fossilization process of petrisian wood fossil and insitu araucarioxylon. It is known that the main composite component of the wood fossil is silica (Si) and Oxygen (O) and the result of isolation and cellulose identification by method FT-IR and UV-Vis from petrisian wood fossils and insitu araucarioxylon have not found cellulose content as the main constituent of wood.
