Author Guidelines

We invite authors to submit their research articles to the Journal of Medical Studies (JOMS). The Journal of Medical Studies only accepts original manuscripts that have not been previously published in other print or electronic journals. The manuscript must pass a Turnitin check with a similarity score of less than 30%. Submissions can include original research articles, literature reviews, and case reports.

Starting from the 2023 edition, JOMS requires manuscripts to be written in Indonesian, formatted in .doc format on Microsoft Word, and typed on A4 paper. The manuscript should contain the following sections:

  1. The article title should use Capitalize Each Word format, except for prepositions and conjunctions, left aligned with a 14 pt font size in English and written concisely.

  2. The author’s name should be listed without academic titles and accompanied by the institution’s name and address under the title. If the manuscript is authored by a team, all authors' names must be included. The first name listed is the lead author, and the authors section must include the corresponding author along with the correspondence email.

  3. The abstract and keywords must be written in English. The abstract should not exceed 200 words, while keywords should consist of 3-5 words or phrases. The abstract is written in 10 pt font size, 1.5 line spacing, with the subheadings Background, Method, Results, and Conclusion.

  4. The article text should be written in Arial, 11 pt font, 1.5 line spacing, with either single or double columns and a normal margin of 2.54 cm on all sides. Manuscripts should be at least 7 pages and no more than 20 pages long.

  5. Each section should include subheadings. Research manuscripts should follow the structure: title; authors’ names and institutional addresses; abstract and keywords; introduction; methods; results and discussion; conclusion; recommendations; and references.

  6. The introduction should provide the research background, context, literature review, research significance, and objectives, presented without subheadings and in paragraph form, occupying 15-20% of the article's total length.

  7. The methods section should describe the research design, data sources, data collection techniques, and data analysis. The research methods must include information on ethical clearance in the methods section, occupying 10-15% of the article length.

  8. The results section should present an analysis of the research findings in figures (including graphs) or tables. Each figure should have a brief title below it, and each table should have a title above it with footnotes below for any non-standard abbreviations in the table. Figure and table titles, as well as table contents, should be in 10 pt font with 1.5 line spacing.

  9. The discussion section should discuss each research result, including explanations of the findings and comparisons with theoretical frameworks from the literature review or similar studies. Results and discussions should comprise 40-60% of the article length.

  10. The conclusion should summarize the main points from the discussion and be presented in paragraph form, not as bullet points.

  11. References should only include sources cited in the text, with all references listed in the bibliography. References must be from the last five years, with 80% coming from research articles in scientific journals or published research reports (including theses and dissertations). Reference points should be written in Arial Italic, 9 pt font, with 1.5 line spacing. Citations and references should use the Vancouver system (numbered).

  12. Authors can download the available manuscript template for more detailed guidelines.
