Biospecies is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the Biology Education Study Program, Jambi University since 2008. Published biannually in January and July, the journal specializes in tropical biology research with a multidisciplinary scope encompassing zoology, botany, microbiology, ecology, environmental science, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and evolutionary biology.
Distinct from conventional biology journals, Biospecies emphasizes the integration of biodiversity research with indigenous knowledge systems and innovative approaches rooted in tropical ecosystems. This unique perspective bridges traditional practices with modern scientific inquiry, offering locally relevant insights with global significance.
Since 2012, Biospecies has adopted the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, accessible at https://online-journal.unja.ac.id/biospecies, significantly increasing its reach to researchers across Indonesia's archipelago. While maintaining limited print editions, all content is fully available online.

Since Volume 11(2), July 2018, each issue contains 10 research articles (increased from 5 previously), reflecting growing scholarly contributions. Through its editorial board workshops, author training programs, and digital infrastructure development, Biospecies continues to strengthen its position as a platform for cutting-edge tropical biology research that harmonizes scientific rigor with local ecological wisdom.
