Evaluasi Hasil Belajar Siswa Pada Materi Bioteknologi dalam Meningkatkan Kemampuan Literasi Sains

Abstract

Science literacy is an essential skill that students must have to face future challenges, such as solving problems, participating intelligently in science issues, understanding the nature of science, and appreciating the impact and benefits of science. Science literacy also includes critical thinking skills that support scientific-based decision-making. Evaluating student learning outcomes is an effective way to measure the extent to which this science literacy is mastered. This study aims to 1) evaluate the learning outcomes of grade 9 students of SMPN 1 Cimaung on biotechnology material and 2) assess the importance of mastering science literacy in the material. The research method used is a quantitative approach with an instrument in the form of a written test consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions. The study results showed that students' mastery of biotechnology material was still below expectations. Of the 30 students who were the subjects of the study, only 3.33 % obtained the highest score, while only 6.67 % were able to exceed the Minimum Completion Criteria of 75. The average student score was 57.33, indicating their mastery of biotechnology concepts is still weak. These findings highlight the need to improve the learning methods and approaches used, such as contextual and experiential learning, to improve students' scientific literacy. This study is expected to be a reference for developing more effective and innovative teaching strategies and encourage further research in this area.

Abstrak. Literasi sains merupakan kemampuan esensial yang harus dimiliki siswa untuk menghadapi tantangan masa depan, seperti memecahkan masalah, berpartisipasi secara cerdas dalam isu-isu sains, memahami sifat-sifat sains, serta menghargai dampak dan manfaat sains. Literasi sains juga mencakup kemampuan berpikir kritis yang mendukung pengambilan keputusan berbasis ilmiah. Evaluasi hasil belajar siswa menjadi cara efektif untuk mengukur sejauh mana literasi sains ini dikuasai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk 1) mengevaluasi hasil belajar siswa kelas 9 SMPN 1 Cimaung pada materi bioteknologi, dan 2) menilai pentingnya penguasaan literasi sains dalam materi tersebut. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif dengan instrumen berupa tes tertulis yang terdiri dari 20 soal pilihan ganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penguasaan materi bioteknologi oleh siswa masih di bawah harapan. Dari 30 siswa yang menjadi subjek penelitian, hanya 3,33 persen yang memperoleh nilai tertinggi, sementara hanya 6,67 persen yang mampu melampaui Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) sebesar 75. Rata-rata nilai siswa berada pada angka 57,33, yang menandakan masih lemahnya penguasaan konsep bioteknologi. Temuan ini menyoroti perlunya perbaikan dalam metode pembelajaran dan pendekatan yang digunakan, seperti pembelajaran berbasis kontekstual dan pengalaman, untuk meningkatkan literasi sains siswa. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi bagi pengembangan strategi pengajaran yang lebih efektif dan inovatif, serta mendorong penelitian lanjutan di bidang ini.
