Abstract

The power of female figures is often invisible and implied, but in many works of art, women often become symbols of beauty and hidden strength. Identity, existence, and social reflection are often represented in female figures behind the visible visual side. The issue raised is how female figures depicted in visual form can still have a strong visual narrative and identity that supports the visual work. The aim of this research is to reveal the visual form of female figures represented in contemporary art based on watercolor media so that they have a strong visual narrative and identity. The method used is qualitative descriptive with literature studies and analysis of the works of artists who raise the theme of women.  The results show that with personal experience as a woman and comparing with other artists, the representation of female figures can also reveal emotional narratives and complex social identities behind their beautiful and aesthetic visual forms. This paper is expected to provide new insights into the representation of female figures in contemporary art, especially from the perspective of visual narrative and identity.
