Abstract

The participation of novice voters in the election of the Mayor of Jambi and Deputy Mayor of 2018 in the vortex of the City of Jambi is one of the important targets for each pair of candidates to gain sympathy and vote support. As a voter who is first involved in determining the choice in the general election, of course, the beginner election does not have good understanding and experience, as a result the political behavior possessed tends to change (unstable). From this it is interesting to know how the political behavior of novice voters and the factors affecting the behavior of novice voters in the city of Jambi in the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Jambi in 2018 in the vortex of the City of Jambi. The type of research the author uses in this research is descriptive qualitative research. From the results of the field research, it is shown that the behavior of Jambi City beginner voters in the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Jambi in 2018 in the vortex of Jambi City is mostly influenced by the choice of family (parents), play groups, personality structure of the beginner voters themselves and their socio-political environment, such as economic system, cultural system and belief system. So if seen from the factors that influence the behavior of these voters, Jambi City voters in the election of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Jambi in 2018, can be categorized as traditional voters.
