EUROPEAN SETTLEMENT AROUND TOENTANGSCHEWEG SALATIGA 1917-1949

The construction of a private farm in Salatiga has made Salatiga magnet for immigrants from outside the city. Population growth has forced the government to provide land for settlement. These immigrants are usually Europeans who work on farms. The land at Toentangscheweg, previously used for coffee farming, has been converted into exclusive settlement for the European elite Toentangscheweg has been transformed into an area with complete facilities and beautiful surroundings with strong and majestic European architectural buildings. The purpose of this research is to determine the development of European settlements in Salatiga. The study uses historical research methods, with stages; heuristic, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study show that European settlements have many differences from other inhabitants, especially indigenous people. The life of the Europeans in Toentangscheweg depicts their caste higher than that of the natives. The difference can be seen in housing, vehicles, lifestyles, education, and so on.

The Impact of the Revitalization of the Jakarta-Bogor Electric Railway on the Bogor Community in 1976-1996

The Batavia-Buitenzorg Electric Train began to develop in 1925. Unfortunately, the development of the Electric Train experienced a decline in the 60s. The Jakarta-Bogor Electric Train was only able to serve the public again after being revitalized in 1976. This study aims to determine (1) the background of the revitalization of the Jakarta-Bogor Electric Train, (2) efforts to revitalize the Jakarta-Bogor Electric Train from 1976-1996, (3) the impact of revitalization on the Bogor society. The methods used include four stages, namely heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study indicate that the Jakarta-Bogor Electric Train was revitalized due to the problem of congestion in Jakarta. The revitalization carried out was in the form of reactivating the ring road, built an elevated track, and built a double track. This revitalization resulted in an increased in the population in Bogor. The phenomenon of back and forth migration and changed in the characteristics of the Bogor community also emerged. Revitalization also had an impact on increased the number of markets, shopping centers, and industrial companies. Finally, housing development in Bogor has also increased.

Between State Duty and Peace Mission: The Other Side & Experience of Indonesia Peacekeeping Force in the Middle East

Further research has been conducted on the role of the Indonesian National Army and the Indonesian laskar after the declaration of independence on 17 August 1945 and during the revolutionary period from 1945 to 1949. However, after decolonization in the 1950s, military history including the lives of its members and their personal lives received less space in the narrative of military history. Peace veteran is a title given specifically to young Indonesians who had participated as special forces under the auspices of the United Nations. These young men did not only come from the TNI but also from student regiments who had the opportunity to join this special peacekeeping force. The main focus of this article revolves around their efforts to guard the border between Egypt and ‘Israel’ during the war in the Middle East. This article will use oral sources and personal documents from various Indonesian peacekeeping forces who served during this period. The results of the study show that although they were faced with uncertain situations, far from their families, and preparing to face the enemy, there was another side to their experiences, namely, meeting colleagues from other countries, language gaps, and other “normal” activities that they were still able to carry out while on duty.

Historical Relationship Between Indonesia and Türkiye

However, challenges remain, influenced by differing foreign policy stances and domestic political changes. This overview underscores the historical foundations and potential for a robust partnership between Indonesia and Türkiye, rooted in mutual interests and a shared legacy. The significance of Ottoman archives for Asian countries like Indonesia is profound, particularly in understanding historical, political, and cultural dynamics. These archives serve as vital resources that illuminate the connections between the Ottoman Empire and Southeast Asia, shedding light on a range of topics.

Historiography of Indonesian Culinary: Tracing Trails and National Identity Through the History of Food

Indonesia's cultural heritage, especially its food traditions, needs more thorough documentation, making it hard to learn about the culture and national identity through cuisine. This often leads to cuisine being seen as just food, ignoring its deeper cultural and philosophical meanings. This study uses a historical approach to address this gap in understanding Indonesian culinary history. Various sources like photos, videos, documents, newspapers, and magazines are used as primary sources in this research. The research finds many historical cookbooks from colonial times to after Indonesia gained independence, each with unique features. These cookbooks reflect the cultural context of their time. Recognizing cuisine as a dynamic part of national identity, evolving over time and across regions, is crucial in establishing a national cuisine. This requires a deep dive into culinary history and an understanding of the role of Indonesian culinary historiography in shaping the nation's food culture.

Influence of Indian Culture on Indonesia

The relationship between India and the Indonesian archipelago has spanned thousands of years, reflecting a rich exchange of culture, religion and trade. Since ancient times, Indian traders have been in contact with the Indonesian archipelago, bringing with them influential commodities and ideas, including Hinduism and Buddhism. The resulting acculturation process resulted in a unique civilisation in the Indonesian archipelago, which is reflected in art, architecture and literature. In addition, shipping in the Strait of Malacca and its surrounding waters became an important route for the spice trade, further strengthening economic ties between the two regions. This paper will examine India's influence on Indonesian archipelago culture from an Indian perspective. The research uses qualitative methods to explore the historical relationship between India and the Indonesian archipelago, focusing on the cultural, religious and trade exchanges that have taken place over thousands of years. The most obvious Indian influence on the Indonesian archipelago is a matter of belief, from which came several other influences such as writing, language, architecture and art. Furthermore, Indian influence is not only found in the Indonesian archipelago, but some findings from the Indonesian archipelago are also found in India.
