Abstract

Mastery of tajwid is an essential skill in reciting the Qur’an; however, many students at the madrasah ibtidaiyah level still struggle to apply tajwid rules correctly. The partner institution, MI Arriyadh in Jambi City, faces the problem of low student ability in reading the Qur’an with tartil and tadwir, which affects the quality of recitation and understanding of the verses’ meanings. This community service program aimed to improve students’ tajwid proficiency through a structured tartil and tadwir training program. The methods used included lectures, demonstrations, guided practice, and evaluations conducted individually and in groups. The training was carried out in three face-to-face sessions, covering the introduction of tajwid rules, the application of tartil and tadwir recitation tempos, and exercises to correct reading errors. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ skills, marked by a reduction in errors related to makhraj, reading rules, and inappropriate tempos. Based on pre-test and post-test results, there was an average score improvement of 35%, and most students were able to recite with consistent tempos in accordance with tajwid principles. This program proved effective in helping students understand and practice tajwid correctly, as well as motivating them to continue improving the quality of their Qur’anic recitation. Similar programs are recommended to be implemented on an ongoing basis, with teachers serving as the main facilitators.
