ABSTRACT
Degradation of land in mangrove forest is the main problem of coastal area in East Aceh District, because it has been managed exploitatively. The objective of research was maping degradation of mangrove forest in East Aceh District. Degradation of mangrove forest was analyzed by remote sensing technique. Results of the research showed that mangrove forest in East Aceh was dominated by Rhizophoraceae, Sonneratiaceae and Euphorbiaceae. Based on landsat analysis 2005, level of land degradation on mangrove forest in East Aceh classified to very critical land (36.064 ha), critical land (28.729 ha), and not critical land (7.548 ha). Degradation of land in mangrove forest was improved by green belt. It would give positive impacts on environmental and in turn increase prosperty of society.
