Abstract

ABSTRACT
The main problem of dry land in Indonesia are poor physical properties and low soil water contents.
The objectives of research are study the change of physical properties and soil water content due to application
of soil conservation tillage. The research was conducted by experiment at experimental field of Jambi
University and based on randomized block design with technical of soil tillages as treathment and four
replications. The treathment of researchs consist of conventional tillage (K), intensive tillage with 30%
mulch (I30), intensive tillage with 60% mulch (I60), minimum tillage with 30% mulch (M30), minimum
tillage with 60 % mulch (M60), no tillage with 30% mulch (N30), and no tillage with 60% mulch (N60). The
result of research showed that minimum tillage with mulching 30% and 60% application decreased bulk
density, soil penetration and soil water loss, but it increased of soil organic carbon, aeration and water
available pores, saturated conductivity of soil, soil water content and yield of corn significantly
