Abstract

Background: A geopark is a designated geographical area that operates under the concept of sustainable development. Many regions in Indonesia are currently interested in fully developing their geoparks. Objective: This study evaluates the achievement of 17 key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators in the development of the Ranah Minang Silokek (RMS) Geopark, located in Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra. Methods: The research employs both qualitative and quantitative descriptive analyses to assess the achievement of these indicators during the implementation of the geopark master plan. Results: In 2026, the RMS Geopark was nominated as a candidate for UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGp) status. Findings indicate that several key SDG indicators have shown positive trends. The regional economy grew by 3.80% from 2017 to 2025, with a 6.12% annual increase in Regional Original Income. The tourism sector grew by 4.14% per year, although its contribution remains relatively small. Furthermore, per capita income increased while poverty rates decreased, indicating improvements in social welfare and the Human Development Index (HDI). Furthermore, per capita income increased while poverty rates decreased, indicating improvements in social welfare and the HDI. Environmental indicators also improved, including those related to environmental conservation and protection, disaster mitigation, and climate change. Conclusions: Analysis of the key SDG indicators reveals that 12 of the 17 SDGs are trending positively: Goals 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 12, 13, 15, 16, and 17. This analysis supports previous research demonstrating the contribution of geoparks to achieving the 17 SDGs.
