Several traditional communities possess rich local knowledge and traditions related to the management of the sugar palm (enau, Arenga pinnata), encompassing ecological, economic, and cultural values. However, much of this knowledge remains undocumented and has not been optimally utilized in science education. This study aims to explore and document local community knowledge about the sugar palm and to examine the ethnoscientific values embedded within it for potential integration into contextual biology learning. The research was conducted in Jambi Tulo Village, Muaro Jambi Regency, using a descriptive qualitative approach. Informants were selected purposively and expanded using snowball sampling, involving sap tappers, palm sugar producers, customary leaders, and community members possessing traditional knowledge related to the sugar palm. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, visual documentation, and literature review, and analyzed using thematic and content analysis to identify relevant scientific concepts. The results indicate that the traditional management of the sugar palm reflects an integration between local knowledge and biological concepts such as plant structure and function, physiological processes (osmosis, root pressure), as well as ecological and conservation principles. Integrating these ethnoscientific values into biology learning can enrich learning contexts, strengthen students’ scientific understanding, and foster ecological awareness and appreciation of local wisdom.
